Mr. Ryan Flores presents us a quintessential idea of cornucopia with his Fruit Vendor opening at Moskowitz Bayse. The ceramic media plays with the idea of vegetation, and the kind which nourishes the body with vitamin richness. Do we have a statement other than the natural goodness of fruits and vegetables? Why are they worth a subject matter for artistry to devour? Perhaps because of the intrinsic beauty of the colors which fall beyond our original making. It is here where the artist plays with the ideas from Nature, to extend the idea with instances of playful curvilinearity, and sumptuously fastidious detail. It is here also where the artist is challenged with the delicacy of the fine ceramic forms of leaves and seeds. The ardor to brazenly sculpt and glaze the world – for at most 30% of the work will be presentable – with such perfectionism is a sincere appreciation of the Natural World and the fruit it bears.

For the exactness of plant life’s wondrous complexity as it stretches to seek life into the future is on full display by Mr. Flores with the display of the ever-most precious of glossy red-seeded and leafy-green details that would make an herbivore salivate from the spackling ceramic iridescence which glistens on the mind’s eye. It is here where baking is taken to another idea of delight. Where the goodness is tasted in another plane from the tactile, to perhaps inspire a love of the natural form and the admiration of an artist that seeks to be devoted to a Higher Form which originates beyond all human imagination.
