‘Source Material’ by Vince Skelly @ Craft Contemporary

April 18, 2026

Mr. Vince Skelly presents with his more than organic representation of beauty with his woodcraft, texture – the idea of the originalities of surface to the material form; while working strictly with wood, exhibiting at Craft Contemporary. And what a potpourri of judgments in pleasure to the eye! For it is with that pleasing objective where demand begins extending onto beauty.

Notice, now, the artist, the visual author, licenses not jagged interruption. Not a forest of sharpness with adds hostile weights to the optic nerve; an interjection rather than that wooded slumber which so many are sleep to; invisibly singing without of need of conscious appearance to the human body; which the artist is closer to extending; soft. Yet not hidden?

So gentle – textures which are gentle in the experience of the woodworking, onto the definitive smoothness of redwood knobs, with a healthy confidence in grain that is its own element to the elemental idea of beautiful visual appearance.

Large is not. Which is the nature of these works compact dimensions, and so ingeniously curated with books, to impose that additive posture in a library or study. Serious poise. Strike the pose.

Yet, without vainglorious haughty gestures which inundate the lens of the mind to the noble ends of written knowledge. Naturally consistent form incorporates spray paint however! There is that industrial goodness after all. The hairspray does not need to be thrown out with the can.
