‘The Touch, the Amulet and the Saltation’ by Sadie Benning @ Vielmetter Los Angeles
Sadie Benning introduces a plasticity to paint with their choice colors and figures in their opening at Vielmetter Los Angeles. The, if I dare say, “taffiness”, of the experience of their art, provides a sumptuous mastication upon the mind’s eye in experiencing a novelty of beauty. And it is here with these abstract movements of paint which give a clarity amidst what would otherwise be possibly entangled if not for their minimalism with their emphases.
That, their geometry may have been extendible in a labyrinthine contouring meandering, as opposed to their wisdom in more punctuality which lathers our experience of each canvas as delectable. It is in the approachability of the works, towards encouraging more engrossment of the tactility, which is what makes these works beyond enjoyable. Thus, the haste in aiming to add as much as possible to a finite space of color has a happy medium of reduction which amplifies. It is to affirm that right-action with fine art is not necessarily complex. As the adage goes, simplicity is the mark of truth. Thus, thickness takes precedence over the inferiority of a mania of messiness in abstraction. For with this choice, we are left with more amazement, as opposed to more bewilderment.
So the gentle capture of stunning is achieved with the affirmation of a minimalism in style. Modesty in the composition with their playfulness of tones brings out the delight which only the visual fine arts can provide. A respite, as it were, from the daze and confusion of what lies outside of each canvases dimensions.
